LPP Alumni Xanéya Thomas Creates Future Leaders Scholarship

When Xanéya Thomas reflects on her journey with the Liberty Partnerships Program (LPP), one word comes to mind: integral. From the moment she joined in sixth grade, she knew she was part of something bigger than just an after-school program. It was a community, a launchpad, and a place where she could grow into the leader she is today. Now, as a law student and advocate, she’s ensuring future students have the same opportunities by establishing the Xanéya Thomas Future Leaders Scholarship.

LPP played a pivotal role in Xanéya’s academic and personal development. Through the program, she found mentorship, leadership opportunities, and the confidence to advocate for herself and others. Whether helping younger students transition to high school, speaking to legislators about the importance of educational support programs, or giving back to Upstate Golisano Children’s Hospital—where she was once a patient—her time in LPP shaped her commitment to service and justice.

At Binghamton High School, Xanéya was a dedicated student-athlete, playing varsity soccer and basketball while also serving as a member of the National Honor Society and student government. She began her college experience at Medaille University before transferring to SUNY Buffalo State, where she graduated summa cum laude with a degree in criminal justice. Now, she’s pursuing her Juris Doctor at the University at Buffalo School of Law, focusing on advocacy law.

Her passion for equity and leadership extends beyond the classroom. She co-founded The IDEAS Foundation, which provides support and education for individuals reentering society, ensuring they have the tools to succeed. Through all of her work, one thing remains clear—her dedication to helping others navigate challenges and create meaningful change.

That dedication inspired her to give back to the program that helped shape her. In September 2024, she established the Xanéya Thomas Future Leaders Scholarship to support a Binghamton High School LPP senior who demonstrates leadership and a commitment to social justice. The scholarship is designed for students pursuing a law degree or a related field, with financial need, community involvement, academic achievement, and a passion for advocacy all taken into consideration.

For Xanéya, this scholarship is more than just financial aid—it’s a way to pay forward the guidance and support she received. She knows firsthand how vital mentorship and resources are in shaping a young leader’s path. Now, she’s ensuring that future generations of LPP students have every opportunity to grow, lead, and make a lasting impact—just as she has.
