The Xáneya Thomas Future Leaders Scholarship
This scholarship was established by Binghamton High School Liberty Partnerships Program (BHS LPP) alumna, Xanéya Thomas, in September 2024 to support a BHS LPP college bound high school senior who has demonstrated a commitment to community leadership and aspires to be a future leader in areas of social justice by pursuing a law or related degree.
The scholarship will be awarded to one college bound BHS LPP senior who demonstrates the character and commitment to social justice and advocacy that Ms. Thomas exhibited during her time at BHS.
The scholarship committee will consider an applicants’ financial need, community involvement, cumulative GPA, personal statement and essay, and other relevant criteria submitted. These considerations should not discourage prospective applicants from applying, as the committee will provide a holistic review all submitted materials.

About Xanéya Thomas
Ms. Thomas attended BHS from 2016 to 2020, participating in music and athletics, playing the flute and competing in varsity soccer and basketball. She was an active member of the National Honor Society and student government, helping plan school and community events.
From 2014 to 2020, she was involved with LPP, assisting in community impact projects and serving as a youth representative at Albany Advocacy Day, advocating for sustainable state funding for NYS educational opportunity programs.
At BHS and LPP, she was known for advocating for peers, discussing school policies, addressing social justice issues, and volunteering in the Greater Binghamton community.
After high school, she played college basketball at Medaille University for three years before transferring to SUNY Buffalo State, where she continued playing and earned a criminal justice bachelor's degree in 2024.
Passionate about social justice and committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion, she is now pursuing a Juris Doctor with a concentration in advocacy law at The University at Buffalo School of Law.
