SUMMER PROGRAMS
2024 Summer Programs
This summer 89 LPP students participated in diverse and impactful experiences designed to foster leadership, community engagement, and personal growth. Each school’s program was unique, offering tailored opportunities to address local needs while empowering students to thrive.
Binghamton High School
Students partnered with BOCES SYEP and BU/LPP for employment as Teen Leaders. They collaborated on projects such as building a handicap-accessible ramp, hosting a community event for UPK students, and creating learning materials for UPK classrooms. Students also participated in a cultural enrichment trip to Philadelphia, learned about equity and emotional intelligence, and reflected on their growth through professional development activities.
Johnson City High School
Students took part in a hands-on program emphasizing life skills, empathy, and community service. Activities included Basic Life Support training, American Sign Language classes, and empathy-building exercises. Community service highlights included creating gifts for veterans, completing clean-up projects, and constructing a handicap-accessible ramp.
Chenango Forks High School
The Chenango Forks program engaged six dedicated students in exploring the world’s Blue Zones—regions known for longevity and wellness. Their efforts culminated in a community Blue Zone Fair, featuring hands-on activities promoting health and wellness.
Susquehanna Valley High School
Students celebrated the 10th anniversary of the SV Summer Fun Day Camp, a hallmark of community collaboration. The program emphasized teamwork, service, and fun, leaving a lasting impact on the students and the community.
Johnson City Middle School
Students explored themed weeks, from Art Therapy Week to College Week. Highlights included zoo visits during Wildlife Week, team sports activities, and volunteer projects that taught the value of giving back.
BCSD East Middle School
Students embraced the theme of “Taking Care of Yourself and Your Community.” They participated in community gardening, clean-ups, and self-exploration activities, fostering mindfulness and connection.
BCSD West Middle School
Students engaged in community-focused activities like art workshops, library visits, and volunteer work. They explored workforce opportunities with Parks & Recreation and celebrated their accomplishments through reflection and teamwork.
Celebrating Success at the Summer Expo
The programs concluded with the “End of Summer Expo,” where students presented their projects and reflected on their growth. The event highlighted their achievements, dedication, and the powerful impact of youth engagement in the community.
