LPP: Support, Opportunities, and Growth

I have often heard people ask, "What is Liberty?" The answer varies significantly, as Liberty embodies different meanings for different individuals. It serves as a personal aid and a preparatory step for college among other benefits. Yet, I believe a more pertinent question is, "What does Liberty mean to you?" This question elicits diverse interpretations and responses. Although I have only been part of Liberty for a few months, its influence on me has been significant. As I am relatively new, I sought the perspectives of other Liberty students who have been involved for longer.

One student, involved for about a year, explained that Liberty represents a safe space where students can converse with adults who understand and discuss issues without judgment. This space also offers solace and assistance, including help with college admissions and financial aid, which proved crucial for her.

Another student, with three to four years in Liberty, emphasized that the program symbolizes opportunity—ranging from college visits to life skill development—and safety, offering a sanctuary for open discussions and emotional recovery.

Lastly, I spoke with an adult affiliated with the SST team at Johnson City High School, who has collaborated with Liberty for three years. To her, Liberty signifies safety and a homelike environment fostering diversity and inclusivity, aiding students in graduating and transitioning to post-secondary education.

Liberty's significance varies among individuals but commonly represents a supportive, familial community, impacting not just current students but also alumni and staff members, enhancing the collective well-being and development of everyone involved. I am reminded that on this journey, we are truly never alone.
