The Binghamton University Liberty Partnerships Program (BU/LPP) is an educational case management and community school model that supports over 475 students annually across Binghamton, Susquehanna Valley, Johnson City, and Chenango Forks school districts. Our full-time staff are embedded in each school to provide comprehensive academic, social-emotional, and personal development support. Funded by the NYS Department of Education, we empower students to thrive in school and life through tailored services and transformative experiences.
WHAT WE DO

Academic Support
Provide academic advising, tutoring, and personal learning plans to students alongside administrators, teachers, counselors and support staff.

Social & Emotional Skill Development
Foster the development of strong social emotional skills through individualized & group learning activities.

Individual & Family Counseling
Provide individual counseling & referrals for family counseling alongside school guidance & counseling departments and our on-staff licensed social worker.

College and Career Prep
College & career exploration and assistance with college applications and employment preparation.

Mentoring
Individual mentoring, both inside and outside of school hours, gives students consistent guidance & support to make sound decisions.

Leadership Development & Civic Engagement
Organize volunteer & civic engagement opportunities that advance leadership skills and transition students into valuable community stakeholders.

BCSD LPP Transition Program

The Binghamton City School District LPP Transition Program is designed to help 8th-grade Liberty students from East and West Middle Schools smoothly transition to high school. Running from January through June each year, this program pairs middle school students with high school Liberty ambassadors, creating a supportive bridge to their new environment. These ambassadors provide personal guidance, sharing insights on what to expect in high school, practical tips, and lessons learned from their own experiences.

During the program, students visit Binghamton High School (BHS) to explore the building, observe classes in session, and meet key members of the BHS community, including principals, counselors, teachers, and other staff. They are introduced to club advisors, get a feel for the school’s culture, and learn navigation tips to build their confidence. Personalized one-on-one time with high school Liberty ambassadors allows students to ask questions, receive advice, and feel reassured that they are seen, valued, and supported throughout their high school journey.

By fostering connections and providing resources, the LPP Transition Program equips students with the tools they need to start high school with confidence, ensuring a positive and memorable transition.
